Student Success Stories

During their time in the Department of Computing and Maths at the University of Derby our students have many opportunities to develop their skills and abilities.

Here are some of their individual experiences and stories, and some which are are based on what they have done in their studies and achieved international acclaim.

Ernest Bartosevic

Ernest spent his placement year at IBM and was able to work on the CERN AliEN Grid Middleware project for the ALICE project for his Dissertation Project.

Georgia Vicars

Georgia tells the story of her studies and extracurricular activities that have led to  success as a student and in her role at Purpose Media following graduation. She is Head of Account Management.

Using IBM Watson Analytics

Our BSc IT students, during their final year on the Emerging IT Product Development module, developed videos of their use of the  IBM Watson Analytics system to gain interesting insights for different sets of data. The videos are now on YouTube as examples of outstanding student work. One of the students is from one of our partner colleges in Dhaka in Bangladesh.

Using SAS to gain Insights

Our first year BSc IT students carried out a project during the spring semester 2016 on the Introduction to Data Analysis module.
